Latin American Studies

The undergraduate Certificate or Minor in Latin American Studies (LAS) recognizes a student's knowledge and understanding of a region of growing importance, both economically and culturally. The course of study is designed to be interdisciplinary and complementary to existing undergraduate  programs, while acknowledging competency in a subject area outside the traditional major. The LAS Certificate or Minor offers an opportunity for University System of Georgia students to pursue an area of specialization which may not be offered by departmental curricula or may be unmet in conventional majors.

  • A Certificate or Minor in Latin American Studies must be taken with a formal degree program. Course work may be undertaken at two-year institutions but must be completed at a four-year university.
  • Students from all majors who hold a 3.0 GPA are eligible to participate.
  • A student may formally apply to  enroll in the program after successful completion of 30 hours of academic credit at a four-year institution or 15 hours of academic credit at a two-year institution. Applications can be obtained from the Coordinator of the Latin American Studies Program.
