Short description of the grant and what we are doing? The University of West Georgia and the Department of Sport Management, Wellness, and
Physical Education has been awarded a grant through the Department of Behavioral Health
and Developmental Disabilities Office to participate in the College Adopt A School
Program. Through this grant, faculty at UWG would like to adopt Central High School
to implement the Sources of Strength program (https://sourcesofstrength.org/). The
Sources of Strength program is a strength-based, holistic wellness program implemented
by adult mentors (UWG students) who train peer leaders (high school students) to spread
Hope, Help, and Strength messaging to positively change school and/or community cultures
around help seeking behavior, codes of silence, and perceptions of adult support.
The goal of this program is also to raise awareness and prevention regarding opioid
use.
The College Adopt a School grant has been awarded for the second year in a row, November 2020-November 2021!
