West Georgia's Honors College attracts the brightest of students regionally and nationally. The College fosters an atmosphere of cooperative learning, creative engagement, and innovative pedagogy to ensure that students have an environment in which they can excel and achieve their academic goals.
Students in the Honors College have the opportunity to engage with faculty and other honors students in small, rigorous classes and are encouraged and supported in undergraduate research, publishing, grant writing, community service activities, and preparation for postgraduate study or career success.

This past summer, several University of West Georgia undergraduate chemistry students conducted advanced chemical research, from exploring explosive compounds to fighting cancer.
Although this may sound like a science-fiction premise, the reality is even more interesting. These UWG students were taking part in an innovative learning opportunity provided by the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.

A former U.S. Marine and recent University of West Georgia graduate with degrees in anthropology and Spanish , Keith knows she can’t do that on her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying.
“I want to do my part and make sure I leave my footprint on the world,” said Keith, who served five years in the military, including a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan.

Hitt said her decision to follow her passion for medicine involved much self-reflection
and prayer. To make her journey of discovery easier, UWG awarded her the Zell Miller
Scholarship to cover tuition and the Presidential Scholarship to cover other expenses
for all four years of undergraduate studies.
Going Medieval: UWG Honors Student Studies Abroad, Excavates Bodies
Julia Lenderman didn’t have a typical study abroad experience. Her first time out of the country, she spent part of her trip excavating human bodies.
Lenderman, a University of West Georgia student majoring in anthropology, earned the chance to study and adventure abroad in Poznań, Poland, last summer through her involvement with UWG’s Honors College.
