Congratulations to Dr. Jeong C. (J.C.) Seong, Professor of Geospatial Technologies, for receiving a $23,500 grant from the U.S. Geological Survey (through AmericaView) to continue his work creating atlases of the state of Georgia. This will be his third atlas in the GeorgiaView series, and it will focus on mapping forest changes in Georgia. The project will create a land cover image atlas for the state, provide remote sensing outreach to a minimum of 65 local and regional offices throughout Georgia, and provide four undergraduate students with specialized geospatial technology skills and training. The seventy-six printed atlases will be distributed to libraries, the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Georgia Dept. of Transportation, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and congressional offices.
Congratulations to Dr. Corey Maggiano, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Dr. Isabel
Maggiano, Lecturer of Anthropology, and Dr. Lisa Gezon, Professor of Anthropology,
for receiving $10,000 from the USG for the Affordable Learning Textbook Transformation
Grant. This grant will be used to improve student experience, success, and retention
through the creation of free and open access materials. The estimated post-project
savings per student is $149.95, with projected total annual student savings of $64,478.50
per academic year.
