Wellness Exploration Conference - Oct. 14, 2020

Exploring all aspects of wellness as a wolf. This virtual conference brought to you by the Student Well-being Council (Career Services, Counseling Center, Health Services/Peer Education, Wolf Wellness Lab, University Recreation).

Event Information

This conference will be all through Zoom sessions. Each session will have its own Zoom link to join. The conference will begin at 11:00 a.m. (EST) on Oct. 14, 2020. This conference is completely free and no registration is necessary.

  • Keynote- Dr. Biber

    Dr. Biber

    Headshot of Dr. Duke BiberWith more than a decade of positive psychology research and application experience, Dr. Biber will encourage the power of positivity as a means of resillience. This session will equip students with necessary techniques to thrive during stressful and unforeseen challenges by becoming aware of their physical, mental, and emotional wellness. They will also be introduced to quick, effective coping strategies including a growth mindset, mindfulness-based self-compassion, gratitude, and joy. Students will learn that prioritizing their self-care is the optimal manner to flourish academically and professionally.

  • Social Determinants of Health

    Social Determinants of Health

    Our health and wellbeing can be affected by many social determinants. Social determinants of health are defined as the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. These may include factors such as socioeconomic status, education, neighborhood, and physical environment. Join us in a panel discussion on how social determinants are affecting many students today and learn how we continue to champion for health equality in our communities.

    How do you keep your stress levels down when you've got school, work, a social life, and side hustles to worry about? Career Services is here to help you achieve YOUR version of work/life balance because it's not the same for everyone, and guess what? It's not always perfectly split 50/50. Learn practical and tangible skills for developing your plan to create balance within your life.

  • Virtual Yoga Group Fitness Class

    Virtual Yoga Group Fitness Class

    University Recreation will be providing a virtual 30-minute yoga class that you can do in your own room/home led by one of our very own yoga instructors. Yoga is great for creating a space to harmonize your mind, body, and soul through various poses. Enjoy this practice of focusing and refreshing your mind to feel fully recharged and prepared for anything that comes your way.

  • Health Services Panel

    Health Services Panel

    The UWG Health Services department houses a vast amount of resources for students. This panel will discuss a range of health topics including COVID-19, sexual assault prevention, alcohol awareness, and overall health and wellness tips. The panel will consist of Dr. Eric Heine, Medical Director; Corey Hindman, Advocate; Ron King, Health Educator; Jenny McDonald, Nurse Practitioner & Certified Nurse Midwife. Each panelist is an expert in their own field and are excited to answer any and all questions.

  • Emotional Wellness Session

    Emotional Wellness Session

    Understanding emotional wellness can be the key to helping us be aware, better understand, and manage our feelings, mental states, and actions/reactions toward our surroundings. Being mindful of our emotions gives us the ability to effectively navigate through challenges and change. Join a mixture of professional care providers and students in a session all about ways to focus on getting more in tune with feelings and ways to positively aid in increasing mindfulness and our overall emotional wellness.

Once a month on Wednesdays, FitWell will be highlighting various wellness topics and providing some pop-up interactive tabling opportunities around campus to come engage and experience these different topics.

Time to dress up for some Halloween fun. With this holiday, parties are inevitable so we want to show you ways to stay safe and healthy while enjoying all that comes with the hallowed festivities.

Meditation/Naps - Nov. 18

Everyone needs a break from school and life in general sometimes. We are here to provide guidance on ways to give yourself a needed and deserved break to allow you to refocus and rejuvenate.
