Wooyoung (William) Jang, Ph.D.

Wooyoung William Jang (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor at University of West Georgia in the Department of Sport Management, Wellness, and Physical Education within the Sport Management program. His research interests focus on exploring different aspects of consumer behavior, primarily in the context of esports. His second line of research examines the ways in which sport consumers perceive the social and physical environments of sport venues (i.e., the sportscape), which in turn affects their attitudes and behaviors. Dr. Jang has published several research papers in well-known journals, including European Sport Management Quarterly (ESMQ), International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship (IJSMS), Computers in Human Behavior, Sport Marketing Quarterly, Sport, Business and Management; An International Journal, Frontiers in Psychology and Journal of Sport. He is the co-author of a chapter in the book entitled Governing sport events: Impact of sport fan engagement. Upon acknowledging his expertise in research methods and data analytics, He was invited to develop the test package that will be included in the instructors ancillary materials for the second edition of Research Methods and Design in Sport Management authored by Andrew, Pedersen, and McEvoy (2019). William serves as a reviewer for a number of academic journals: ESMQ, IJSMS, International Journal of Sport communication, Campbell Collaboration, and Asian Society for Sport. He has presented his research projects at national and international sport management and marketing conferences, including the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), the Sport Marketing Association (SMA), and the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice (AMTP). Before joining University of West Georgia, Dr. Jang taught and assisted undergraduate courses as an Associate Instructor for four years at Indiana University. He received his Ph.D. in the Sport Management program at Indiana University in Bloomington. He obtained a master's degree in Sport Management from the University of Georgia (Athens, GA) and received an undergraduate degree in Golf Management from Kyung-Hee University in South Korea.
